Our Approaches

What is NeuroMovement?

An introduction to NeuroMovement

“Movement is the Language of the brain”- Anat Baniel.

Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® is a powerful practice that takes advantage of the brain’s remarkable ability to change itself for the better to heal body and mind. NeuroMovement uses movement to give information to the brain through the nervous system.

Anat Baniel talking about the method she developed

The method utilises what Anat Baniel has called the 9 Essentials for positive brain change. It looks like simple slow movement, stretching or massage but using the 9 Essentials you're giving vital information to the brain that can cause dramatic and lasting changes, for both children and adults.

Sean offers 1:1 NeuroMovement sessions for children and adults, and Group classes for adults.

What is HANDLE?

Judith Bluestone talking about the approach she developed

Our HANDLE® Programmes transform people's lives. Families find solutions to problems that seemed unsolvable: reducing tantrums, improving speech and communication, reducing anxiety and hypersensitivities and enabling movement such as crawling or walking where this previously seemed impossible.

At its core HANDLE is a way of seeing. It teaches us that “people show us what they need” and that our behaviours are the key to understanding the state of our underlying neurological systems. As well as promoting a deeper understanding of human functioning and development, HANDLE uses specifically designed and individually tailored activities that people can do at home to help address issues with these underlying systems, based on their own motivations.

One of the key things that sets HANDLE apart from other approaches is the recognition that stressed systems do not learn or develop efficiently. We practice Gentle Enhancement® by stopping activities immediately in response to subtle signals of stress, such as changes in breathing, dizziness, or just wanting to stop. Understanding the simple idea that ‘less is more’ can prove life-changing for HANDLE clients and course participants, their families, and the people they work with or who work with them.

HANDLE was originated by the late Judith Bluestone who discovered a unique and compelling view of learning and learning difficulties which she preferred to call 'learning differences'. Combining her own autistic experience with academic research and more than 40 years of clinical practice she founded The HANDLE Institute® in 1994.

Dive into Judith’s fascinating work in more detail in her insightful book The Fabric of Autism.

Sean is a certified Affiliate of the Institute, which continues to apply, develop, research and teach her work. We offer both 1:1 HANDLE Programmes for children and adults and HANDLE Courses for adults.
